Occupational role stereotypes are widespread, with certain professions classified as "male" or "female." For example, nursing and teaching are often seen as professions dominated by women, while engineering and construction are traditionally associated with men.
Gender segregation in modern society takes two forms:
Horizontal Segregation: This occurs when men and women are distributed across different types of activities, meaning certain fields are dominated by one gender over the other.
Vertical Segregation: This refers to the distribution of men and women within a specific profession according to hierarchy, indicating how different genders occupy various levels of responsibility and authority within the same field.
