SDG TSUL 2024

SDG 12. RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

Staff of The university has done a number of things to reduce the use of paper and plastic products. In particular, enterprises and organizations wishing to cooperate with the university, first of all, accept the condition of non-use of paper and plastic products, after which a service agreement can be concluded with the university and the enterprise or organization. For example, the use of paper and plastic products on the territory of the university by all 3 enterprises (organizations) that cooperate with the university and produce and supply food products on its territory is prohibited by mutual agreement.

Water Efficient Appliances Usage (e.g. hand washing taps, toilet flush, etc.)

The Salor water treatment plant in Sergeli district treats sewage from 6 districts. Sewage from the newly formed New Life District will also be diverted to this facility. Sewage water entering the premises from the districts is cleaned at the following stages: sedimentation, purification, sludge extraction, oxygen supply, and neutralization with hypochloride. Chlorine production plants operate in each wastewater treatment plant, where chlorine is used for cleaning and neutralizing water, prepared in the workshops. Waste from the water is separated and sent to farmer's farms to be used as nutrients for crops.

Around 2 million cubes of water are cleaned daily, entering from the city's population. After the cleaning process, the water is suitable for use in fish ponds, farming, and other purposes. The purified water is removed to irrigated lands around the city through the Strait, Salor canals, and the Chirchik River.

This project highlights the usage of water-efficient appliances at Tashkent State University of Law. The initiative aims to reduce water consumption through the implementation of modern technology in handwashing taps, toilet flush systems, and other facilities across the university campus. These efforts align with global sustainability goals and ensure resource conservation on a local scale.

Green Footprints Initiative

Green footprints painted on the street showed the way to communal garbage bins, because it is not always easy to do the right thing when you are hurrying to discard your garbage or running late for work. As the UNDP team explains: "the footprints work as a visible reminder for people who aren't fully aware of their actions when they litter, and so they end up being a far more effective tool than empty threats or penalties."

Meanwhile, waste collectors were trained to keep the carefully-sorted refuse divided while being gathered and transported to recycling facilities, to ensure the good work done by households was not wasted.

These multi-colored waste bins on campus have been installed to maximize waste recycling activities, and special colored bins have been installed for plastic, paper and other types of waste. This, in turn, speeds up the waste sorting process. Most of the recycled waste is spent on landscaping all the green areas and gardens of the university and providing it with natural fertilizers on a regular basis.

State Unitary Enterprise “Makhsustrans” (Special Transport) has started processing organic waste. Work is underway with Green International on this project. For this, a land plot has been allocated near Tashkent. “Makhsustrans” (Special Transport) brings sorted organic waste from markets, restaurants and other facilities. Here the waste is re-sorted, added to straw, leaves or special manure, collected in rows using German technology and dried within 6 weeks. The leaves are regularly mixed on a specially imported combine harvester from Germany. After six weeks, the ideal fertilizer is ready.

Any waste, such as batteries and lightbulbs are also put separately as they cannot be disposed off as the normal trash.

Tashkent State University of Law has signed a number of agreements with “Makhsustrans” in support of this activity. Through this partnership, TSUL continues to intensify its activities in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

University Initiatives to Reduce Paper and Plastic Use

The university has undertaken several measures to minimize the use of paper and plastic products. Enterprises and organizations wishing to collaborate with the university are required to agree to the non-use of paper and plastic products before signing any service agreements. This agreement ensures that all partner enterprises or organizations, including the three enterprises supplying food on campus, refrain from using paper and plastic products within university grounds.

Official documents for university employees are distributed through a justified and streamlined invoicing system, effectively reducing unnecessary paperwork. Additionally, electronic document management has been introduced among university staff via a dedicated portal, av.ijro.uz, which further reduces paper usage. Students also benefit from this system, accessing documents like payment agreements and certificates through a separate electronic interface.

Key Electronic Systems Implemented at TSUL

  • marketing.tsul.uz: A digital platform for applicants to apply for contracts and manage them electronically.
  • stepen.tsul.uz: Automated portal for processing admissions, including international collaboration processes.
  • topic.tsul.uz: Facilitates selection of research topics for IMT and Master’s dissertations, assignment of scientific supervisors, and related tasks.
  • contingent.tsul.uz: Manages and keeps records of all currently enrolled students.
  • tech.tsul.uz: Tracks and manages the university’s equipment inventory.
  • kadr.tsul.uz: Electronic system for personnel management and record keeping.

In addition to the above systems, students and faculty can use library-tsul.uz to access a wide range of books and legal records relevant to their studies.
